KSCS was founded in August, 1987. Its primary purpose is to enhance scientific interchange among researchers in the disciplines comprising the field of Cognitive Science, including Artificial Intelligence, Linguistics, Psychology, Neuroscience, Philosophy, and related disciplines in Korea.

KSCS is a non-profit professional organization, and its main activities are sponsoring conferences held twice a year, publishing the Korean Journal of Cognitive Science and Newsletters, and promoting interdisciplinary research interactions across traditional disciplinary boundaries.

KSCS is affiliated with other research programs and institutes in Korea; namely, Pusan National University Cognitive Science Program, Seoul National University Cognitive Science Program, Seoul National University Institute of Cognitive Science, SungKyunKwan University Cognitive Science Program, Yonsei University Center for Cognitive Science Research, and Yonsei University Cognitive Science Graduate Program.

KSCS is enhancing its relations with the many other academic organizations in Korea, creating liaisons with groups such as the Discourse and Cognitive Linguistics Society of Korea, Information Science Society of Korea, Korean Generative Grammar Circle, Korean Language Society, Korean Neuroscience Society, Korean Psychological Association, Korean Society for Language, Information and Computation, Korean Society of Emotion and Sense Science, the Linguistic Society of Korea.

KSCS is also building informal recognition with academic circles outside Korea. Some of them are the American Psychological Society, American Science Association, Cognitive Science Society, Japanese Cognitive Science Society, and the Society for Text and Discourse.

KSCS maintains a web site at "http://www.cogsci.or.kr/" with information about its activities, annual meeting, conferences related to cognitive sciences, graduate programs and research centers in cognitive science, and notices about research and employment opportunities in Korea.
